 14 Principles of Management By Henri Fayol:

Henri Fayol was a French industrialist and management theorist who developed a set of principles of management.



1- Division Of Work

The 1st principle states that:

  • Work should be divided among individuals or groups
  • It ensures that each person specializes in a specific task
  • Due to this, an individual becomes more efficient and effective in his task
  • In resulting, productivity increased 



2- Authority And Responsibility:

The principle states that:

  • Authority and responsibility are inter-related or co-existent
  • Any organization that grants authority to a person must also ensure that they bear responsibility for its exercise
  • Authority refers to the power to give orders, make decisions, and enforce obedience
  • Responsibility refers to the obligation to carry out tasks in an organization
  • Authority gives responsibility 
  • Responsibility requires accountability
According to the principle, the manager should assign authority to subordinates to carry out tasks but also ensure that they understand their responsibilities very well and are accountable for their actions.

Discipline:

It states that:

  • Discipline is a necessary element of a well-managed organization 
  • Employees should the rules governed by the organization
  • Managers should ensure that rules are enforced fairly
  • Discipline involves several aspects, including adherence to policies, punctuality, attendance, and performance standards


Unity of Command:

According to the principle:

  • An employee should have only one direct supervisor to whom they report
  • Each employee should receive instructions from only one director in order to avoid confusion and conflicting demands 
  • This principle is important because it helps to ensure that employees have clear lines of communication


Unity of Direction:

The principle states that :

  • Each group of activities or employees should work in the same direction
  • Each group of activities or employees should govern by a single director
  • They should work toward a common goal
  • Organization can achieve greater efficiency, better coordination, and improved overall performance

Collective interest over individual interest:

  • Management should prioritize the common or collective interests of the organization over the individual interests of employees. 
  • Principle is based on the idea that the success of an organization depends on the cooperation and coordination of its members 
  • Managers should ensure that employees work towards the collective interest of the organization by promoting team spirit, collaboration, and shared goals.
  • Employees should be willing to sacrifice their individual interests for the benefit of the organization
