Functions of district administration in Pakistan

 Functions of District Administration in Pakistan:

There are four functions of the district administration which are the following:

Executive function

Judicial function

Revenue function

Coordinative function

Executive function:

Some of the executive functions are the following:

  •    The most significant activity of the executive is to maintain law and order in a district
  •    Providing relief work in case of emergencies like floods and famine.
  •    Maintenance of land records and revenue collection
  •   Providing licenses, permits, etc.

Judicial function:

The functions of the judicial in a district are:

  • Supervises the functioning of all executive magistrate
  • DM(District Magistrate) also performs judicial activities such as judicial inquiries, the trial of cases, etc.
  • DM presided over many courts which deal with preventive laws relating to the breach of peace. 
  • In the past, all the magistracy had organized under the DC(Deputy Commissioner)




Revenue Function:

Revenue functions are:

  • DM(District Magistrate) is also a collector of revenues, like land revenue, water rates, etc.
  • The management of land, accounting of income, and implementation of reforms

Coordinative functions:

  • DM also performs coordinative functions
  • He was not a technical person but the person who had knowledge and experience in general administration departments like health, education, irrigation, public work, industry, etc. even if independent in the hierarchy, their activities were coordinated by DM.

Miscellaneous functions: 

  • As the head of the district, DM would organize election, relief and rehabilitation work, protocol duties, attending functions, meetings, etc.
  •  He had expected to remain constantly accessible to the public.
