Managerial Approach to Public Administration

Managerial approach:

The differences between public and private administration are frequently minimized by those who describe public administration in managerial terms.

Traditional management approach and New Public Management are the two primary subgroups of the managerial approach.

In some organizations, each of these is prevalent.

Civil service reformers said that the introduction of this strategy was necessary to address inefficiency, corruption, and the growth of spoilsmen in the nineteenth century.

Businesslike methods were suggested to be applied in the public sector to render government operations apolitical. This strategy supported Woodrow Wilson's vision and fit into the politics-administration dichotomy.

In other words, the strategy was designed to maximize the three E's.

Organizational Structure:

A bureaucratic structure was chosen, to meet the goals of traditional managerial strategy.

Because, bureaucracy places a strong emphasis on labor division, which will boost efficiency.

Once more, specialization will aid employees in becoming authorities in their respective fields. Expertization for coordination, and in bureaucracies, hierarchy accomplishes this.

The bureaucratic structure of a hierarchy satisfies the need for all functions and responsibilities to be explicitly stated or along formalistic lines.

The defining features of this strategy were the classification of positions by scientific principles and hiring personnel based on qualifications and fitness.

View of individual:

Regardless of their status, the traditional administrative approach fostered an impersonal view of people.

Dehumanization was perception to be a specific approach to stop illogical feelings from interfering with work performance.

The emphasis was on an employee have to adjust to the machine, not the other way around.

The 3Es values have been promoted through depersonalizing both clients and victims.

Cognitive Method:

The scientific method for knowledge development was stressed in the conventional managerial approach. The strategy is inductive.

Budgeting:

Traditional managerial approaches concentrate on the budgeting system since it is efficient and successful at enhancing the three E's values.

Making Decisions:

Under this strategy, public officials should investigate every possibility to determine  is the most affordable.
